Why I'm Dumping Psychology Next Year

Tue Jul 1, 2008, 1:31 PM
  • Mood: Yearning
  • Listening to: Silence...
  • Reading: Bill Bryson's A Short History of Nearly Everything
  • Watching: Top Gear!
  • Playing: Final Fantasy XII
  • Eating: Chicken and gravy with rice
  • Drinking: Water, lots and lots of it
Monday morning, just back from a DVD marathon, understandably tired and a bit pissy. First block, Psychology. Lesson on equations. So U value = N1 X (N1+1)... *snores*

Before that, we were berated for not being able to recall a freaking list of methods, or whatever. It was boiling hot too, and all I could do was stare at the clock, the second hand moving - achingly - slowly... *snores*

Mind you, I had enough of it much, much earlier. Okay, our teacher sets us daily essays - yes, DAILY! - and the deadline is always the day after. As in, 'Here, do this 18 marker for tomorrow, without fail!' *cracks whip*

As demanding as it was, I was still a dilligent hardworker and worked to the early hours of the morning getting each and every work perfect. I get so tired I start nodding off on the last paragraph. Once I fell right asleep and almost drooled all over my work - I know, eugh! Imagine having to write it all out again!

But the teacher never mark any of our work. Just gave them a cursory glance, many times she doesn't even bother to look at mine, her sharp eyes too busy searching for guilty faces. It's always very discouraging. I mean, oh thanks, never mind that I didn't got to bed till half past midnight, or that I missed my programme, or that I set aside all my other homework, just to lay this beauty on the table!

Then disaster struck! She wanted it typed up so we can mess about on laptops pretending to be intellectuals. I worked late into the night again, already lacking sleep from the night before, and got it all drafted out neatly. But I couldn't type it up, because a) my head was screaming at me to hit the pillow, and b) parental locks meant no computer till the next day.

She wasn't happy. Ooh, never mind that I did do the work, and that I have never let her down in the past. I didn't type it up, I'm wasting my time, go away, put the bloody stupid laptop away! I'm a disgrace! It was as if I had murdered someone. She even complained to my tutor! Honestly, I have never been so pissed off!

That week, I said to myself, never again! I piled all my psychology work into my drawer, where I can ignore them, pulled out my dusty philosophy pile and set to work on them, having neglected them for weeks on end. And I enjoyed every minute of it! It was refreshing, exciting, new and interesting, in contrast to the rigid, stale psychology texts! Also in that week, I finally got around to finishing off my film coursework - on Heath Ledger's performance in Brokeback Mountain to commemorate his untimely death, no less! It was great for the soul, I was venting my frustration through mourning for Ledger.

Psychology is really pointless to me now, and I can't wait to finally finish it! Yet I still have to start on the bloody coursework. Ugh, I hate it. She had another go at me for 'not being enthusiastic enough', and I had to stop myself from saying, 'I wonder why'. But it's okay. Three more days and I'm free!

Pet peeve of the week: Damn, still cannot change the goddamn mood...
